Chinese Marriages

While reading the Chinese autobiographies, i was trying to figure out what i wanted to learn more about. Then it hit me, Chinese Marriages. I chose this topic because I have always wanted to know if the marriages were arranged or if they happened naturally or a little bit of both. Turns out that that law enforcement has not been able to stop parents from the practice of arranging marriages. Over the past 50 years the change in parental involvement has decreased a ton.

Parents are still involved, just in different ways. Now a days parents are involved, by giving potential partners, giving their opinions and advice. Arranged marriages are more common in other Asian countries. Arranged marriages are also most common in Royal families, because they want only the best of the best in the family. Most people get Arranged and Forced marriages confused. Arranged marriages are when the third party chose your significant other, however they still have a right to say no they do not want to marry that person. Forced marriages is when you have to marry that person even if you do not want to.

As you can see on the picture to the right, a woman in a forced marriage has to wear his cloth over her face, because that is the tradition.

If i lived in China, I do not think i would marry at all. And my reasoning is, i do not want to marry someone who i am arranged with and barely know. However i feel like that would be a very interesting experience. If i was forced to marry someone and i did not want to marry them, i would probably be thrown in jail for not obeying the "law" of forced marriages. Because i will not do something i do not want to do.

reading response #4: Article on Plagiarism

I don't understand how copying something from the internet for school is not plagiarism. Because you are taking someone else's work and using it as your own. But the definition of plagiarism is copying someone else's work and putting your name on it and using it as their own. People believe that now that we have more electronics that plagiarism is more likely to happen now then 10 years ago. Professors don't quite understand why plagiarism is so widespread and they will not excuse it. All teachers believe that if you copy someone else work you are not learning any yourself. Therefore they are not doing their jobs. Most professors believe that the amount of plagiarism has gone up a lot because the students have resources like never before that gives them the information they need at the touch of a button. As you can see in the picture from above it shows you the difference of purposely plagiarizing and accidently plagiarizing. Susan D Blum states, " Today's students stand at the crossroads of a new way of conceiving texts and the people who cream them and who quote them." What she is saying is basically what I stated earlier. The access to information is way to easy and the security for the information is very weak and students take advantage of that now a days.

face to face

Today I learned that I have no specific preference to African American people or white people. Black or white is just a skin color it does not matter. What matters is what is on the inside. Your skin color does not define who you are as a person. I was taught to love anyone and everyone. The bias test showed me what and who I prefer.

9-11: face to face
Everyone felt like the world was going to just fall apart after 9-11. Muslim's of America were worried about their life. Their children were being bullied in school by other students who were not Muslim. The non Muslims were calling the Muslim students Bin Laden and making their lives miserable. A lot of people were screaming and calling loved ones and telling them to turn the news on to see what was going on with the World Trade Centers. One Lady woke up to her roommate crying and screaming because she had a loved one who was visiting the World Trade Center. She did not know how to help her roommate, she was so upset and broken.  This gentleman was getting ready for a meeting and he was really close to the pentagon, and he said he was so shocked. This lady's husband called her and told her to turn the TV on because there was a bunch of important stuff going on. She ignored him because it was early in the morning. She said about 10 minutes later her father called and said that there was some serious issues going on, on the east coast, and he told her to be careful while she is at school. I wish I was older to understand what was happening exactly. This day no matter what always hits my heart. It is a sad day and I feel for all of those who died or ones who lost loved ones in 9-11

My Reaction to 9-11: I was 3 when this happened. I don't remember a lot, but I do remember my mom crying a lot and my dad rushing through the door to turn the TV on. I was in the bath and my mom came and got me out and rapped me up in my little frog towel. She was crying and she just was hugging me and telling me that she loved me. I asked her why there were fireworks on the screen though, I didn't realize it was an explosion. To this day I still get emotional about 9-11.

Pearl Harbor: face to face
The whole atmosphere changed for this one lady who was from Japan. After pearl Harbor was attacked, her friends were not talking to her and blaming her. She did not know what they were talking about because she did not hear about it until the next day. Her friends were blaming her and being very rude to her, yet she did not even know what those other students were talking about. This gentleman was coming home from church and him and his family stopped for ice cream when someone told them about Pearl Harbor. He said that it was stupid of the Japanese to do. He did not automatically think that it meant war. But by the end of the day he knew it meant war. I remember talking to my dad and not understanding what was going on, so a years later when I was old enough he showed me the movie "Pearl Harbor" with Tom Cruise and he explained to me what happened in the years before.

My Reaction to Pearl Harbor:
I really never understood why Japan did that? Don't they know we were much more powerful? I felt like it was really stupid of them to do that. Personally, but everyone has their own opinion.

Reading Response #3: Every day

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to wake up as a different person every day? To not know if you were going to wake up and be a girl or a boy that day. That is how my main character lives his/her life not knowing who he/she is going to be every single day. He/she is a 16 year old. No matter what, he/she will always been in the body of a 16 year old. Either way if he/she is awake or not at midnight each night his/hers spirit is removed from that body and put into someone else's body. However it is less painful to be asleep during the process. The way David Levithan writes is interesting. Every chapter in this book, he/she is another person. Each chapter as i finished them made me want to read more. I have not been able to put this book down yet. In the first chapter he is a boy named Justin. He can only access a certain amount of Justin's life. But most of the time he wont access super personal information. He tries to act exactly like that specific person that day. But with Justin it was a different story. When he found out that Justin had a girlfriend he did not know what to do. He did not know how Justin acted around Rihannon so he tried his best to act like how Justin would act. but when he saw Rihannon he could not believe how Beautiful she was. But have you ever wondered what it would be like to be looking at the person you are in love with, and they don't know it is you? My main character is in love with Rihannon but he is not Justin anymore. He/she is Amy Tran now. So as far as Rihannon knows, Amy is a new student at her school. The main character is looking at her and says " I do not want to love her. I do not want to be in love" He/she is looking right at the love of his/her life and he can not do anything about it because he isn't who he was when he first met her. Literally he/she is not the same person. I could not imagine life looking at the one I love and them not knowing who I am. Or knowing that it is me. If you look up at the picture above it shows all the kinds of ethnicity's and the different genders that my main character can be. The only thing that stays the same in his life no matter what is his age.

Reading response #1: Divergent

Reading isn't my favorite thing to do. Until recently, I've never read a book from cover to cover unless i had to as a classroom assignment. The book Divergent captured my attention with in the first paragraph. Finally, i wanted to know how a book ended.
This book is a pretty fast read you have to stay up with everything that happens. The book is narrated by Beatrice, the main character. Throughout the book there are a lot of twists in the chapters that you wont see coming. That keeps the suspense going through out the whole entire book not just a tiny piece. A good book always has a twist, it keeps the readers interested. The characters in this book are always having to make decisions that will affect the rest of your life. Their lives are basically just a bunch of choices.
At the end of chapter 4 in the last paragraph it says "I walk into my room, and when i close my door behind me. i realize that the decision might be simple. It will require a great act of selflessness to choose Abnegation, or a great act of courage to choose Dauntless, and maybe just choosing one over the other will prove that i belong. Tomorrow, those two qualities will struggle within me and only one can win." Beatrice has to make a decision that will affect the rest of her life. She took a faction test to see if she will either be Dauntless which are the dangerous and risk taking faction, The Erudite which are the smart people with attitude, the Candor which are the people who are straight forward and honest and they don't care if your feelings get hurt when they tell you something, Amity are the hippie like people who are really laid back and calm. The last one is the Abnegation which is the government based faction. Then you have factionless which is self explanatory.
Her test results came back inconclusive. Her choices were Abnegation, Erudite, and dauntless. At the choosing ceremony, the people choosing factions have to cut their hand and drip their blood from their hand into the bowl of hot rocks in which the faction they choose. Beatrice choose dauntless. She was originally Abnegation, and now she is dauntless transfer.
For the Dauntless initiation, they had to jump off a moving train. Beatrice decided she was going to be the first initiate to jump. When you choose a new faction you also get the chance to change your name. And Beatrice decided to go by Tris. When you start a new faction you leave your family and your old faction behind. So you basically start a new life.
If i was Tris, i would choose the Abnegation or Amity. I would choose abnegation because you are the highest faction their is. And Amity because i love to be really laid back and not have any worries, or stressing out too much.
